Notify the state licensing board
Contact the state contractor licensing board to report the death. The license cannot be transferred, but the business may be able to designate a new qualifier.
Address active projects
All active construction projects must be assessed. Subcontractors, clients, and building inspectors must be notified. A licensed replacement may be needed to complete work.
Notify the surety bond company
Contact the surety company for all active bonds. Bond claims may arise from incomplete projects. The estate may be liable for completion costs.
Secure tools, equipment, and materials
Inventory and secure all business tools, equipment, vehicles, and materials at job sites. These are estate assets.
