Step-by-Step Guide

1

Use Apple Legacy Contact if set up

If the deceased set up an Apple Legacy Contact, that person can request access to the Apple ID including iCloud Keychain data. This is the easiest path.

2

Access via device passcode

If you know the device passcode (iPhone/iPad/Mac), you can view saved passwords in Settings > Passwords. The device must be unlocked.

3

Keep Apple devices charged and active

Do not factory reset any Apple devices. iCloud Keychain is synced locally and the device may be the only way to access saved passwords.

Warning: Never reset or erase Apple devices before extracting passwords.

4

Request access from Apple with death certificate

If no Legacy Contact exists, submit a death certificate and court order to Apple Digital Legacy program to request account access.
