Step-by-Step Guide
Export critical data
Download all data from Azure Storage accounts, SQL databases, and Cosmos DB instances before making any changes. Use Azure Portal → Export or the Azure CLI.
Stop or deallocate running resources
Shut down all VMs, App Services, AKS clusters, and Functions to stop compute charges. Azure Portal → All Resources → Stop/Deallocate.
Transfer subscription ownership
Azure supports subscription ownership transfer. Go to Subscriptions → Transfer billing ownership. The new owner gets all resources.
Cancel subscriptions or contact support
If no transfer is needed, cancel the subscription. Contact Azure support with death certificate for estate account closure.
